Dr Maylyn Tan

Head of Academic Development at Singapore Institute of Management Global Education

Maylyn is the Head of Academic Development at Singapore Institute of Management Global Education. Since 2012, Maylyn has been championing evidence-inform practices with a focus in virtual learning communities. Her work involves the development of learning solutions and support systems for effective classroom instruction across multimodal teaching environments.

Dr Maylyn Tan is the Head of Academic Development at Singapore Institute of Management Global Education (SIMGE). SIMGE is a recognised teaching centre for the àËÅöÊÓƵ and partners with 11 other universities globally to provide transnational tertiary education. As a key member in shaping the teaching and learning approaches in SIMGE, Maylyn works with faculty and program leaders of SIMGE partner institutions from across Australia, China, UK and USA to experiment with pedagogical innovation and champion evidence-inform practices. This role also involves talent resourcing, on-boarding and professional development of adjunct faculty members.

Maylyn’s interests include instructional design and performance-focused learning with particular emphasis in virtual communities and technology-mediated interactions. Some projects that she has worked on include STELLAR, a mobile application for on-demand access to scholarly teaching resources, team-based learning for computing courses and an enterprise-wide initiative to democratize data analytics capability using a participatory learning solution.

Maylyn started her career as an engineer in the manufacturing and electronics sector. Her passion for widening access to education has led her to venture into teaching in a vocational college before moving onto higher education and academic development. She holds a degree in Materials Engineering from Nanyang Technological University and advanced qualifications in education from Melbourne University and Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education. Maylyn is also a Specialist Adult Educator with the Institute of Adult Learning, Singapore and serves as a dissertation advisor to Doctor of Education students at JHU.
