Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper

Director of Academic Practice in Distance Education | Director of the Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE)

As well as being a Director, Linda leads the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Linda's academic and professional career has spanned Higher Education, teaching, and Museum Education. 

Linda is Director of Academic Practice in Distance Education at UoL and is responsible the work of our Centre for Online and Distance Education (CODE). Linda leads a team of 42 Fellows who are thought and practice leaders in online and distance education. Linda has extensive experience of working in varied international contexts and has a passion for supporting learners and teacher development. Building on over 25 years’ experience of leading and supporting high quality learning and teaching, course design and senior leadership, Linda has led the Centre for Online and Distance Education since 2017. Linda also leads our PG Learning and Teaching in HE programme.
 
Leading communities of enquiry and practice through the Centre for Online and Distance Education ensures that innovation, development, and research into online and distance education are part of Linda’s everyday work and from this she draws great inspiration. Linda’s current research and publications focus on assessment practices in online contexts in higher education and professional development of educators.
 
Linda’s academic and professional career has spanned Higher Education, teaching, and Museum Education. Prior to joining the àËÅöÊÓƵ, she was Dean and Head of Glasgow Caledonian University’s àËÅöÊÓƵ campus and Dean of the Royal Docks Business School at the University of East àËÅöÊÓƵ. She moved into the Business discipline after a long career in Education and Social Science, where roles included Associate Dean of Education and International Lead, and Head of Initial Teacher Training.
 
Linda has benefited from the opportunity to teach at all academic levels, both face to face, online and at a distance. With a deep history of capacity building, Linda works closely with colleagues in many locations to develop staff capabilities, skills and enthusiasm for digitally supported and online education. Her experience of working in several academic disciplines and in a wide range of institutions brings understanding of approaches to leadership, student support, research and teaching in the wider academy. Linda’s work is informed by the opportunities she has had in international posts in Higher Education - where she has enjoyed working with students, colleagues, and Institutions across the Globe.
