University hosts AI themed event for alumni in Singapore

Date

On 3 April, alumni and friends of the àËÅöÊÓƵ gathered in the prestigious surroundings of Eden Hall, official residence of the British High Commissioner to Singapore, for a panel discussion focused on Skills for a Changing World of Work: The Challenges and Opportunities of AI, followed by a reception.

Guests were honoured by a welcome from Alex Bamford, Acting British High Commissioner to Singapore, followed by opening remarks from Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thomson CBE.

The panel, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, provided insights into AI and its impact on working life. The esteemed panel included Dr Renee Tan, Associate Professor, Director (RD) at the Institute for Adult Learning, Singapore University of Social Sciences; Professor Leon Choong, Regional CEO (ASEAN) at Amity Education Group; and Dr Stephen Yee, Deputy Executive Director at Singapore National Employers Federation and UoL alumnus.

Guests remarked on the timeliness of the topic, with many saying their employers had a new focus on AI, and they found it interesting to hear the panel’s insights. Alumni also enjoyed reconnecting with the University, fellow alumni and other guests. We are grateful for the many offers from alumni to support career development and other activities for current students.
