As an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Software Engineer trainer at an international IT services company in Muscat, Oman, my days are filled with the excitement of teaching and the challenge of staying on top of the latest developments in technology. Originally from Persia, my journey has taken me across borders, both geographically and intellectually, as I now balance a demanding career, family life, and advanced studies in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the àËÅöÊÓƵ.

A typical day in my life

My day begins early, often before dawn, with a cup of coffee and a quick review of the day’s agenda. From 8am to 4pm, I’m in the classroom, leading sessions on AI, machine learning, DevOps, and software engineering. Teaching in Muscat is both rewarding and intense, requiring me to constantly update my knowledge and skills to stay ahead in this fast-paced field.

When the workday ends, my focus shifts to my family. Spending time with them is a priority, and I cherish these moments as a way to unwind and recharge. But the day is far from over. After dinner, once the household quiets down, I transition into student mode. The flexibility of the àËÅöÊÓƵ’s programme is a lifeline, allowing me to tailor my studies around my professional and personal life.

Applying what I learn

What I love most about my studies is the immediate application of knowledge. The concepts and techniques I learn in my AI and Machine Learning course are not just theoretical—they’re tools I use every day in my teaching. Whether it’s implementing a new algorithm or discussing the ethical implications of AI with my students, the material from UoL enhances both my teaching and my understanding of the field.

This real-world application is incredibly fulfilling. It’s one thing to learn about AI in a classroom setting, but it’s another to see that knowledge come to life in a practical environment. My students benefit from the latest insights and methods, and I gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the material by teaching it to others. It’s a symbiotic relationship that keeps me engaged and motivated.

Tools and techniques for success

Balancing a full-time job, studies, and family life requires a well-oiled system of organisation. I’ve come to rely on a suite of digital tools that help me manage my time and tasks efficiently. Trello is my go-to for organizing my day, allowing me to break down my responsibilities into manageable chunks. Each task, whether it’s preparing a lecture, completing a course assignment, or spending time with my family, has its place on my board.

In addition to Trello, I use AI-powered tools like Grammarly to ensure that my communication—whether academic or professional—is clear and polished. These tools are essential, especially when the workload gets heavy. They help me maintain a high level of productivity and keep stress at bay by streamlining my daily tasks.

Challenges along the way

The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. There are days when the demands of teaching, studying, and family life collide, making it difficult to keep everything in balance. However, the àËÅöÊÓƵ’s support system has been a tremendous help. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and Coursera Platform offer a wealth of resources, from lecture recordings to discussion forums, where I can connect with fellow students facing similar challenges.

Connecting with a global community of students has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my studies. Sharing experiences, tips, and encouragement with peers from around the world has not only helped me stay motivated but also provided a broader perspective on my studies. It’s reassuring to know that others are going through the same struggles and triumphs, and it fosters a sense of camaraderie that transcends borders.

Looking ahead

As I look to the future, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation. The field of AI and Machine Learning is evolving at a rapid pace, and being at the forefront of this evolution is both challenging and exhilarating. The knowledge and skills I’m acquiring through my studies are not just for my personal growth—they’re tools I can use to contribute to the burgeoning tech landscape in Oman.

I’m particularly excited about the potential applications of AI in the region, where technology is increasingly playing a central role in economic development and innovation. As an educator, I’m eager to pass on what I’ve learned to my students, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in this dynamic field.

The journey ahead is full of possibilities, and while it’s not without its hurdles, I’m confident that the experiences and education I’m gaining at the àËÅöÊÓƵ will serve as a strong foundation for whatever comes next.
