The regular Experiences in Digital Learning webinars from the Centre for Online and Distance Education provide the opportunity to explore the rapid innovations and changes we are seeing in digital learning, teaching and assessment. Our next Experiences in Digital Learning webinar takes place on Thursday 25 January 2024, 14.00 – 15.00 GMT.

In this Webinar CODE fellows Dr Gwyneth Hughes and Dr Peter Cannell respond to the growing interest in climate change education in Higher Education and explore how to address climate change in all disciplines. Universities are developing sustainability polices e.g. on reducing waste, heating and travel, but beyond environmental science specialisms, little is known about how far sustainability and climate change are being integrated into the full curriculum.

This webinar will report findings of a research project using the àËÅöÊÓƵ’s distance and online programmes. The webinar will present the findings from a small survey and interviews with programme directors on how they are teaching climate change in a range of disciplines. There was a request for interdisciplinary resources and a document with links to freely available and open access climate change resources will be shared.

The Divinity programme director offered the programme as a case study for developing the curriculum to incorporate more on climate change. There are challenges for distance programmes as online materials are usually prepared in advance and cannot easily respond to a new and fast changing topic such as climate change. Two tutors on the Divinity programmes will give details of the case study and answer questions.

Participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences of developing a climate change curriculum.
