The monthly Experiences in Digital Learning webinars from CDE and the àËÅöÊÓƵ Institute in Paris provide the opportunity to explore the rapid innovations and changes we are seeing in digital learning, teaching and assessment.

In our December webinar we explore themes of academic freedom and obligation and how they are affected by the move to a digital environment.

While the free researching and expression of information and ideas, and the associated freedom to respond and to contest both of these are essential elements of a University’s mission, what do these freedoms mean when so much discourse is now in the public arena, messages pass through many hands and a rapid response is often privileged over a more considered reply? How can Universities help staff and students to engage, as they must, in academic freedom in this digitised world?

A panel of distinguished speakers will lead the discussion and engage with other participants to address these questions, led by Dr Tim Gore OBE, CEO of the àËÅöÊÓƵ Institute in Paris. The panellists are:

  • Professor Jeremy Carrette, Dean for Europe and Professor of Philosophy, Religion & Culture at the University of Kent, Brussels, Belgium
  • Dr Clare Sansom, an independent scholar who combines teaching postgraduate biomedical science, with a particular emphasis on distance education, with science writing and editing.
  • Dr Edouard Morena, Lecturer in French Studies and International Politics, àËÅöÊÓƵ Institute in Paris.
  • Dr David Baume, an independent international higher education researcher, evaluator, consultant, staff and educational developer and writer.
